WWE Fan Nation has been launched, and the company hopes that it will help to improve the website statistics.
WWE Fan Nation
For those of you that aren't aware yet, WWE Fan Nation is the official social networking website for WWE.
It's very much like MySpace in that it is a community for wrestling fans across the world to gather.Fans can create their own profiles, they can discuss wrestling on the message board, they can write their own blogs, and they can upload their own pictures.Just like MySpace, fans can also send friend requests to other fans. The goal is to increase online interaction between wrestling fans in hopes of convincing them to tune in to the television shows each week.
Social Networking
WWE recently launched a marketing campaign using social networking websites like MySpace and Facebook. A lot of people were puzzled as to why it took WWE so long to do so. TNA had already been utilizing MySpace to build a little community for their fans. Some have come up with excuses for WWE by stating that they don't have enough people to focus on social networking. Of course, they conveniently forget that WWE has a ton of money to hire more people.
Granted, WWE doesn't necessarily need to do social networking because they already have a large fan base, but it never hurts to increase awareness in your product.
In fact, ROH (Ring of Honor) should seriously consider doubling their efforts to market their product via social networking. They're a smaller wrestling company without a television deal. The internet should be one of their greatest tools in expanding their company.
Reasons
Publicly, WWE will state that they're doing this so that they can connect with the audience better. However, we should all know that the big reason for doing WWE Fan Nation is to increase the statistics for the website.
WWE has been concerned about the declining stats for their website. In fact, Michael Cole was removed from his position as the managing editor of the website because of the declining numbers.By doing the WWE Fan Nation, the website should have an increase in pageviews, which in turn increases advertising revenue for the company.
It should also have an increase in unique visitors because now people have a reason to hit up the website daily.
Closing Thoughts
Make sure you head on over to http://fans.wwe.com and check it out. The more places for wrestling fans to go to online, the better.
